Theme[]

"ANTIHERO is about shaking off the shackles of guilt. The burden of doing what's expected, or not doing what's expected. Sometimes people think that you're gonna be the hero. You're gonna go in and save the day, in whatever capacity that is to you. And, often, you don't feel like enough. You don't feel good enough. And you feel the pressure of other people's expectations. And, ANTIHERO is about that feeling of, 'Yeah, why do I have to be the person to do this? Why am I the chosen person to do this thing?'

That's why, to me, my favorite lyric is, 'Your prison's not my home,' because that's so applicable in different situations. Whether it's something good that someone expects you to do, and you don't feel good enough, you don't feel like the savior in that situation, or whether it's something is really incongruent with your essence, with your being, and you just can't do that honestly with yourself. Sometimes it can feel like other people's expectations are a prison, and that's what ANTIHERO is about to me."

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1]
Eyes
Boring into my soul
Knives
Cut through and make me whole
Lies
Feeling them pull me down
Pull me down

[Pre-Chorus]
You can't take me from the high line
Hiding in the nighttime
Take me from their lies

[Chorus]
So don't call me a hero
I just want to let go
Got me feeling caged in, I can't hold the rage in
Your prison's not my home
Don't call me a hero
I just want to let go
Got me feeling caged in, I can't hold the rage in
Your prison's not my home

[Verse 2]
Lives
Something that's bought or sold
Try
Controlling what we know
Fight
Something we're always told
Always told

[Pre-Chorus]
You can't take me from the high line
Hiding in the night time
Take me from their lies

[Chorus]
So don't call me a hero
I just want to let go
Got me feeling caged in, I can't hold the rage in
Your prison's not my home
Don't call me a hero
I just want to let go
Got me feeling caged in, I can't hold the rage in
Your prison's not my home

[Outro]
Take me from the-
Hiding, hiding, hi-
Take me from the-
Pull me (Pull)
