"Brn" (stylized as BRN) is a song recorded by Australian singer-songwriter AViVA from her first studio album, VOLUME I (2020). It was released as a single on April 27, 2018.
Background[]
On March 15th, 2018, AViVA announced her new single's name, BRN.[1] Later, on April 3rd, AViVA posted an image of her posing in front of a graffiti of BRN's name.[2] A few days later, on April 7th, the release date along with the song's teaser were released.[3] She then revealed the cover art for the song on April 12th.[4] BRN premiered and released on April 27th, 2018.
A couple weeks later, on May 9th, AViVA posted a vlog on YouTube explaining the meaning of BRN.[5]
A few days later, on May 17th, a live version of the song, recorded at Studios 301, was released on YouTube.[6] She had teased this recording a few weeks before on Tumblr.[7]
In 2020, AViVA posted the instrumental version of BRN to YouTube.[8] This video was posted on August 20th.

"To me BRN is a song about personal power and taking control of who you are, and not caring what other people think. I know that that's a really easy thing to say and when it comes to practice, it's much harder, but the human default seems to be judging other people and putting other people down. And that comparison-itis[sic] and BRN is about taking that away and stripping it back and making it about what you can do, who you are, and not letting other people shut you down.
In my life, I have found that there have been a lot of times where different people have tried to influence me and make me be someone that I haven't wanted to be. There have been times when I have done that to myself. So BRN is my battle cry to people to join what I've been saying: that army of one. That army of yourself. To become the warrior of your own life.
Social conditioning is what makes us who we think we have to be. And one of the things that inspired was the quote, 'We're the granddaughters of the witches that you couldn't burn," because, that to me is so relevant today still. Sure, we are burning witches, but people are being burnt everyday for being different. And that difference, that uniqueness, is what makes our world so vibrant and beautiful and creative.
So I want you to remember that if someone tries to put you down for being different, YOU are a fighter, and you don't need to listen to them."
